Research Areas

  • Geometry has been a central research area within SINTEF for more than two decades. Application span from CAD-systems and health related challenges to entertainent and geology.
  • Optimization. Performs applied research and technology development based on advanced optimization methods to solve complex planning and scheduling applications.
  • Simulation. The research activity provides mathematical technology to help industry visualize their concepts & ideas using advanced mathematical methods for modelling, analysis and simulation
  • Parallel computations and computational demanding applications. The activities started out with the first Norwegian super computers. Now the focus is on multi CPU-computers, multi-core CPUs and the use of programmable graphics cards (GPUs) as a computational resource.
  • Visualization has been a research area within SINTEF for many years.  The activity has resulted in companies such as WeatherOne and Ceetron being established. With the emerging programability of  graphics cards (GPUs), we see once more an increased activity within this research area.
