Projects

Most of the projects are related to description and computations of 3D object for the use within Computer Aided Design (CAD), 3D representation of natural objects, animation and computer games. One of our focus areas is use of the computational power of graphics cards for industrial and scientific applications.

EU-fundet projects:

• Focus K3D - is a Coordination Action promoting the comprehension, adoption and use of knowledge intensive technologies for coding and sharing 3D media content in application areas that are both consolidated in the massive use of 3D digital resources (like Biomedicine or Product Modelling) and emerging (like Gaming or Archaeology). March 2008- February 2010)
• SAGA -  ShApes, Geometry and Algebra - An Initial Training Network - Currently under contracts negotiations. (Expected duration September 2008 - August 2012).
• Exciting - Exact geometry simulation for optimized design of vehicles and vessels. Small or medium-scale focused research project in the fp7 Transport Program. (Expected duration October 2008 - September 2011).

Some of our industrial projects:

• Development of mathematical algorithms for the CAD system of CoCreates: Designer Modelling. The cooperation started with Hewlett-Packard being the first company to use of the SISL - SINTEF Spline Library in 1989.  

Method projects with the major funding from the research council of Norway:

• Heterogeneous Computing – Boosting Performance of Scientific and Industrial Computing by Heterogeneous Parallel Architectures, a strategic research project financed by  The Research Council of Norway (2008-2010).
• Parallel3D (2007-2010) Knowledge project with user cooperation funded by the Reserach Council of Norway and Systems in Motion. Web-page under preparation.
• Iso-geometry (2007-2011) Knowledge project with user cooperation funded by the Reserach Council of Norway, Aker Kværner MH and Jotne EPM Technology.

• GAIA II a project in EUs 5th framework program IST-FET. The project addresses a new generation of intersection software for CAD-systems.
