The energy consumption and associated environmental impact from shipping and offshore activities represent an area of continuous research activities. Choice of energy carrier, conversion technology and system design affect the total efficiency of power production and associated emissions. In future design of marine energy systems the development towards an environmentally sustainable industry will require application of cleaner fuels and improved energy conversion technologies.

MARINTEK aim to provide knowledge to the marine industry to facilitate improved energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact from marine energy systems, providing assistance from technology development to final implementation.
