MARINTEK invites to seminar at NorShipping 2009
When: Wednesday 10 June 2009, 10:00 – 14:00
Where: Thon Hotel Arena, Lillestrøm
Knowledge for future shipping
The shipping industry is facing increased economic challenges due to an economic recession in the world economy. When the global economy recovers, fuel prices are expected to increase due to a shortage of fossil fuel oils. The shipping community experiences stricter limitations in pollutions (SOx, NOx, PM), and a considerable pressure to take its share of the required reductions of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Knowledge will be crucial to meet these challenges.
MARINTEK invites to a seminar to discuss policies concerning environmental issues in future shipping from the European Commission, IMO and the Norwegian authorities. Results from R&D covering maritime ICT supporting greener shipping, technologies for reduction of fuel consumption and emissions and alternative fuels like LNG, will be presented. The seminar will also discuss the future framework for goal-oriented R&D to meet the environmental challenges in the maritime industry.
To meet the future challenges within a broad scope of marine technologies, MARINTEK has just started the concept development of the next generation competence centre. The World Ocean Space Centre will be presented as basis for an overall discussion concerning future visions.
Detailed programme will follow later.
