MARINTEK is a Member of the SeaOrbiter Team

The Sea Orbiter project was officially announced 24 May in Paris at Musee national de la Marine as a part of the Jules Verne Exhibition. This exhibition was opened 9 March this year celebrating the 100 years anniversary of Jules Verne. SeaOrbiter is designed by Jacques Rougerie, the famous architect, and is in the spirit of Jules Verne for exploring the oceans, marine resources, climate and the nature of the oceans. This drifting platform will be an excellent base for astronaut training and of interest to both NASA and ESA.

MARINTEK is an active partner in the SeaOrbiter project, taking care of the necessary testing and analyses to ensure that this ocean going platform shaped as a Viking ship has the best seakeeping and manoeuvring capability.

The first trip is planned to take place in 2008 following the Gulf Stream from Florida and up to Norway.
