Polymer Particles and Surface Chemistry
The research team Polymer particles and surface chemistry performs research in synthesis and chemical modification of polymers and particles. The research team has expert competence in polymerisation technology, particle technology and surface modification of polymers and polymer particles. We improve products and develop new materials in a broad variety of application areas, from low-price high-volume products (e.g. PVC, EPS, binders for paintings and varnishes) to high-price low-volume specialty products for medical and biochemical applications, including fine and specialty chemicals.
Key activities of the research team are:
- Polymerisation technologies (emulsion, suspension, dispersion, miniemulsion)
- Surface modification and functionalisation of polymers and polymer particles
- Stable emulsions and dispersions
- Particle technology, including monosized particles and magnetic particles
- Interaction between polymer surfaces and biological material
- Analysis of particulate systems
- Porocity analysis
The research team has high focus on applied research and product orientated solutions. We work in tight dialogue with our customers, from the definition of the project to the transfer of the results.
The research team has well equipped laboratories for the preparation and characterisation of particles and emulsions and for the modification and characterisation of surfaces.
