Operation and manoeuvring of ships and marine vehicles

Efficient and safe operation of ships and marine vehicles require accurate knowledge about ship behavior and dynamics and the influence of the environment like waves, wind, current and topography.
MARINTEK has unique laboratories to test all types of vehicles and to simulate operations in extreme conditions, to find criteria and limitations, which are dangerous to investigate in full scale. Limiting factors like impact loads, dynamic stability and extreme motions and failure mode effects have to be correctly modeled. Free running models including motion control and autopilot systems can be tested in the towing tank as well as in the model basin.
In addition, we have developed software for calculations of ship motions and sea loads. Combined with model tests, the theoretical models can be validated and tuned to provide a wider range of conditions to be studied. Performing the right combination of selected model tests and theoretical calculations provides cost-efficient assessment of seakeeping behavior and operational limitations.
Together with our knowledge within automatic control and simulation technology, we can offer the best services within design, rapid prototyping and simulations for training, monitoring and decision support.
