Future of aquaculture
Technological limitations and challenges
Thursday 21st of June 2007 the Skandinavian seminar in Radisson SAS hotell Gardermoen will take place. The seminar is a cooperation between EU projects OATP and DesignACT and organised by SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture and NTNU. THe objective of the seminar is to involve new participants and to get their opinions on what is important for future development of aquaculture in Europe.

Feedback from this seminar will be combine with the similar seminars in the other regions of Europe and presented for the EU commission. It is expected that the EU commission will use this information as basis for their choice and preferences in aquaculture research and industry development.
Offshore Aquaculture Technology Platform (OATP) is an Europian project under management of Marine Institute from Irland which has a goal to map interests, possibilities, challenges and limitations for aquaculture at more exposed areas. All types of aquaculture such as fin fish, shell, sea tangle ets are considered in the framework. The project will map the needs through interviews, questionary and workshops. Beside Marine Institute SINTEF Fishesries and Aquaculture (Norway) and Cetmar (Spain) are major contributors in the project. There are more than 20 partners from other interested in aquculture, fish farmers, producers of equipment, government organisations etc who is also invoved in the work. OATP is in addition the part of European Aquacutlure Technology Plattform (EATP) (www.eatpnet.eu).
EU project DesignACT takes the initiative to design a new European aquaculture research center. The plan is to establish a full scale research plant for training, development and testing of for instance new cage concepts, new work boats and new equipment such as surveillance technology. This center will offer Norwegian and foreign institutes and companies unique and objective research possibilities. Project is still in establishing phase and requires feedback about industry demands. More information is available on www.designact.org.
Practical information: Participation in the seminar is free and includes lunch. The seminar is for all interested in development of the future technology for aquaculture.
In connection with the seminar we wish to conduct a survey which includes questions about various problems to be addressed in the future development of aquaculture. We appreciate your participation in the survey. All responses will be treated confidentially. Feedback from this survey is important for the project but first of all it is a possibility to clarify and quantify the opinions which will be used to influence EU commission.
Go to questionary here (only in Norwegian).
