SHIPSHAPE

Interactive ship design

SHIPSHAPE is a ship design system developed to meet the needs of naval architects for a flexible, fast and reliable tool, primarily for preliminary ship design. The system is also fully capable of being used for documentation (stability booklets, etc.).

The main benefit using SHIPSHAPE in your design of ships lies in the speed, in which you may perform tedious calculations on a very accurate and reliable level. This will allow you to calculate a large number of alternative ship designs, and in doing so, finding the best solution to the task at hand.

Modifications to your project are easily implemented with aid of topology in the project model. If the hull lines of the project is changed, geometry of deck, superstructures and internal arrangement are automatically updated. Even parts of the loading conditions input is updated since it is made relative to geometry objects.

Functions

  • Hull and arrangement transformation.
  • Hydrostatics.
  • Capacities and ullage.
  • Stability (intact and damage).
  • Longitudinal strength.
  • Resistance and propulsion.
  • Freeboard, tonnage.
  • Light-ship weight calculation.
  • Loading conditions.
  • Launching.
  • Grounding calculations.
  • Probabilistic damage stability.
  • Stability for SES (Surface Effect Ship).
  • Water on deck calculations.
  • «Local flooding» stability.

A version of SHIPSHAPE is specially prepared for the so-called OPA-90 calculations, with additional functions for deflections and residual hull girder strength (simplified method).

System environment

SHIPSHAPE is a fast system and exploits the full computational power of 32 bit PC processors. A typical calculation of damage stability for a specific loading condition will normally take a few seconds depending on hardware configuration. The system can be run on standard 386/486/586 DX PCs with a minimum of 16 MB RAM.

Reports are easily generated on laser printers, including wide use of graphic output. SHIPSHAPE is furnished with links to other systems/formats like AUTOKON, HYPET, AutoSHIP, AutoHYDRO, GHS, KCS Initial Design and DXF formats. Further links are normally easily implemented.

System development and support

SHIPSHAPE is continuously updated both with regard to user interface and functionality. A great deal of the updates are made upon request from the users. We may also serve our users by use of e-mail/internet and modem connections.

A number of companies are using SHIPSHAPE. The users represent shipyards, marine consultants, educational institutions and shipowners. The SHIPSHAPE system is approved by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate with respect to calculations of tonnage and intact/damage stability calculations.

SHIPSHAPE is developed at MARINTEK, - marketing and sale is handled by LODIC a.s.
