CO2 Capture

The Climate Scenario Over the last century, human activity have had a profound impact on the environment. Combustion of fossil fuels are main sources of CO2 emissions which, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), constitute a major man-made contribution to global warming of our planet.
Most scientists believe the increase of CO2 emissions has created the human-induced climate warming conditions that are currently affecting the globe. If this trend continues, serious climate change will be the inevitable result.
SINTEF Materials and Chemistry is conducting significant research within CO2 capture technologies. With the expected increase in power production, as well as with the growing environmental concerns regarding CO2 emissions the removal of CO2 from power plants based on combustion of both natural gas and coal will become of great importance on a world basis.
State-of-the-art Research Center SINTEF Materials and Chemistry have for many years been active in the development and improvement of absorption processes for CO2 removal and offers world class laboratory facilities as well as state-of-the-art simulation solutions for advanced CO2 separation technologies.
Our Goal SINTEF Materials and Chemistry focuses on technological innovation within absorbent based technologies to achieve greater efficiencies and reduce costs. This involves significant experimental efforts as well as computer simulation, from molecular scales to process modelling of state of the art absorption plants.
