Remediation Technologies
SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, Marine Environmental Technology have for more than two decades been involved in the fate and behaviour and remediation of contaminants, including petroluem products and environmental pollutants and inorganics, in porous media in temperate and arctic conditions. In these studies the main natural processes have been studied.
Data and experience from these studies have been used to for development of remediation techniques of contaminated porous media including:
- Bioremediation (nutrients; formulation/strategies)
- Extraction/washing
- Immobilisation
- Composting
- Dispersants/surfactants
The studies have been performed in all scales with different complexicity, realisity, units and cost:
- Laboratory studies (mechanisms, rates, components)
- Meso-scale facility (optimisation, strategy, screening)
- Field (verification)
