Today, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions has become a highly focused task. Power generation with CO2 capture can contribute to this reduction. This will involve new combustion technologies like for example oxy-fuel and hydrogen combustion. Improvements in the overall efficiency of combustion systems will also contribute to greenhouse gas reduction. In these areas SINTEF has large ongoing projects. Combustion involves the interaction between many constituent disciplines as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and turbulence, chemical kinetics and heat and mass transfer. Further development in combustion will need an understanding both on the scientific aspects and on the engineering applications. SINTEF has the necessary expertise, laboratory facilities and simulation tools suitable for most of these areas.
