Microbial molecular biology

Genetic modification of bacteria and other microorganisms plays an important role in the development of efficient industrial bioprocesses. SINTEF has experience with both modern (recombinant DNA technology) and classic methods (mutagenization and selection). The work is performed in close cooperation with the Microbiology and Molecular genetics groups at NTNU who do the actual modifications, while the evaluation and testing of the strains are done at SINTEF.

Examples of bacteria we have worked with include:
Escherichia coli
Pseudomonas spp.
Azotobacter vinelandii
Bacillus spp.
Lactobacillus spp.
Streptomyces spp.
Corynebacterium glutamicum.

Examples of yeasts:
Phaffia rhodozyma
