Malaysian fisheries development study

During 1998-2000 SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture was subcontracted by the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research for the “Fisheries development study in Malaysia” for the client: Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the Premier Ministers Office.

SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture delivered the senior aquaculture policy advisor and the marine aquaculture specialist. The interim report included an analysis of aquaculture development in and outside Malaysia and an auditing of the present marine aquaculture situation (seaweed, bivalves and fish) identifying potential development topics.

During the second phase and based on the priorities made by the EPU three detailed cluster development analysis and action plans for the seaweed industry, the tuna farming and the sea bass and snapper marine fish farming were described.
