Integrated Drilling Simulator

Integrated Drilling Simulator is a project that that develops and integrates advanced models that are useful for drilling operations. The Integrated Drilling Simulator will be a common basis for a number of next generation drilling applications, ranging from planning, studies, realistic training, real time monitoring and control, and post-analysis of available historical data to prepare for upcoming wells. The simulator will reveal interaction between the different models, and be an effective tool for finding a more optimal path through critical phases of the drilling process.

The first phase of the project aims at an integration of:

  • transient flow model; flow of drilling fluids mixed with cuttings and formation liquids and gasses
  • 2D transient temperature model
  • torque and drag model
  • bit/rate of penetration model
  • pore pressure model
  • hole stability model

The project is partially funded by SINTEF and partially through external projects that applies parts of the Integrated Drilling Simulator; currently the Norwegian Research Council, Hydro, Petrobras and Statoil.
