Efficient retail market and energy products
The retail market includes all elements of the electricity market involving end users. New retail energy products and related technologies have been tested out in several of our projects. Examples include different energy products, time of use tariffs, flexible energy charges, and smart house technology.
We have also studied how these products contribute to increased energy efficiency and released capacity reserves.
The necessary incentives and institutional framework for the different market participants to introduce such products and technologies to a larger extent than today have been analyzed, and solutions have been proposed. Social as well as corporate consequences of a well functioning retail market have been discussed. Furthermore, the possible capacity reserve of the retail market has been quantified, and the administrative solutions necessary to utilize those reserves through market mechanisms have been mapped out.
Software has been developed, and analyses have been made, to divide the total load into different consumption purposes (e.g. lighting, heating and ventilation). The model developed – USELOAD – has a separate module for tariff calculation. The consequences of Demand Side Management can be analyzed in the model. Cooperation has been established with several international organizations within the field.
