Linear and nonlinear programming
Problems that can be modeled in a way that one aim to minimize (or maximize) a target or objective function, based on a number of decision variables with constraints, can be solved by non-linear programming (NLP) techniques.
Respectively, linear programming (LP) can be used on such problems if they fulfill certain properties concerning the objective function and the constraints, namely that all functions are linear.
SINTEF provides a high level of competence according to such problems, as well as development and use of commercial software for solving linear planning problems. Moreover, we develop tailor-made software for solving non-linear planning problems.
