DesignACT

Designing the European Aquaculture Centre of Technology

DesignACT is a European project in the 6th Framework Programme under the Research Infrastructures Action. The project was launched in April 2005 and has a duration of three years.

The objective of DesignACT is to prepare the establishment of a new large-scale, technology-driven experimental facility that will address the unmet needs in the European aquaculture sector. As a meetingplace for technology and biology, the goal is to seek technical solutions with direct or indirect biological impact.

The Aquaculture Centre of Technology (ACT) will provide full-scale installations, equipment, instruments and cultivation methods. It will offer researchers and technology providers the opportunity to validate their prototypes, models or theories and to test the applicability of newly developed methods and technological solutions. As an independent research facility, ACT will offer the seafood producing industry an opportunity for objective benchmarking.
