Blaklia - new laboratories
SINTEF Energy Research invests 165 million in a new electricity laboratory in Blaklia outside Trondheim. The new lab strengthens an area where SINTEF and NTNU are international leaders.
The new lab is being built close by Statnett substation on Blakli. This is an ideal location for such a lab.
The building will consist of seven separate laboratories, each geared toward their particular application area. The largest and most prominent being a new high voltage, which is dimensioned for system voltages up to 420 kV.
A lot of peope are interested in our research on future energy solutions. This is why we launch this blog to reach a larger audience with our projects and research results.

Drastic cut in electricity bill for supermarket
In cooperation with NTNU, we have 7000 m2 of modern laboratories available for research, development and education.
- The Thermal engineering laboratory (VATL) is the largest laboratory for research work within the technologies of refrigeration, low temperature, combustion, thermal engineering, dewatering, food engineering, indoor energy and environment.
- The Electrotechnical laboratories (ETL) comprise high voltage, high current and climate labs as well as a number of smaller labs for material testing and analyses. They also include special labs for hyperbaric testing of materials and components for sub-sea power and signal applications for the off-shore industries.
The Centres for Environment-friendly Energy Research (FME) comprised of selected centres which conduct research of high international calibre in order to solve challenges within the field. The purpose of these centres is to contribute to a better basis for decisions in the interface between climate, energy and industry. The aim is to increase the platform of knowledge for national and international energy policy.
SINTEF Energy is involved in six of the eleven national centres, and has the overall project management responsibility of four of the centres.

SINTEF Energy Research has a strong research profile and together with industry and other research centres is involved in seven of the Research Council of Norway's Centres for Environment-friendly Energy Research (FME). The Company has a strong position in the EU's Framework Programme for research with extensive activities in sectors such as energy planning, wind power, transport of CO2, and purification technology for gas and coal power. The Company's scientific standing has been advanced by the realization of Stortingets (Norwegian parliament) Climate Agreement. This has placed us among the leaders of European energy research.
